Adding a checkbox to a DCT

Hello all,
I'm currently using TS 6.5 on Solaris and I know this is a simple question, but I'm going to ask anyway:

How do you create a check box that when the user checks the box a message displays in the datacapture.cfg file. Also the text has be the color red. I'm new to teamsite and have been reading the FORM API manual, but I need an example script to truly understand this. I appreciate the help. Thanks.

I'm going to assume that you mean on the form itself, as the datacapture.cfg file is not modified by users interacting with the form.

I would suggest you read specifically about the onItemChange event and the displayMessage function.

I'm having a bit of a problem. In the datacapture.cfg file
I want to use the displayMessage function and have created it in a js file, but how do I reference this in xml? I have attached the datacapture.cfg file to show you what I mean. I am trying to display a message for the Quality checkbox.

That depends on your business requirements. "Best" or not, it is consistent with OTB Data Capture Form behavior.
Your message(s) will utilize the same frame at the bottom of the screen that TS uses for messaging.
Please note that once displayed your message will stay there until you (or Form) writes something else

You posted your DCT (why did you post it as a Word doc?), but you didn't post any of the FormAPI code you were trying to write to do what you wanted (there's a smattering of FormAPI code in the DCT - but not anything that shows what you've actually tried to accomplish).

displayMessage will show a small message near the bottom of the window.
Another alternative is to use javascript alert()'s or confirm()'s within your FormAPI code - I think a lot of it depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Hello and thanks for answering my message. I posted the dct on a word doc because I was not able to upload the file itself. As for the javascript code, I thought I posted it separately...my apologies for the sloppiness today. Anyway, you somewhat answered my question. I don't want the message to display at the bottom of the page, I want it to display next to the check box. I think I will use javascript alert for this instead. Thanks again.
