Default value for Data deployment

Hi,
I have a problem with setting default value while data deployment.
i have a data descriptor XML, which contains the mapping of table columns to items in DCR. DCR has two items item1, item2. both are optional.
my requirement is, if one of them is provided other should get value of that while deployment. So is there any way, where i can set the default value for item1 as item2 or viceversa in data descriptor. or any other suitable approach.?
