How to configure a job that deploys to another target when the first is failed ?

Our issue is the following :
I'd like to create a deployment which will switch the target server when the used one is off.
How can we do that ?

Are you talking about a 'job' as in a TeamSite Workflow ? or do you mean a 'deployment' ?

I believe you might be able to use something like:

iwodcmd -host remote-server serverstatus

to verify the status of the remote server (you'll have to play with it to figure out return values and such).

I don't believe you can make this work too well internally to the deployment configuration - but a wrapper script for the deployment (e.g.: an externaltask or cgitask script in a workflow) could utilize this concept to determine what to pass in as a parameter for the target server to the deployment - something like:

    my $results = qx($odhome/bin/iwodcmd -host $server serverstatus 2>&1);
