Call Perl from javascript in workflow.

Hi all,

I am coding a workflow which locks all the files attached to it as soon as the html form is served up via the iwwft_instantiator CGI. However if the user decide to click on the "cancel" button instead of "publish content" button (same as "start job" button) I would like to release the locks on the files.

This requires calling "unlock" CLT but problem is that the javascript has no way of invoking the perl method which will do this.

Any suggestions?

If this is an workflow, why not use an external task to unlock the files ?

This screen is before the invocation of the actual workflow but files are locked by the user at this moment so that nobody else can work on them till the current user has either invoked & finished the workflow ( via publish content button) or decides to cancel it (via cancel button).

The cancel button click needs to close the window and release the locks and that is where I am stuck at the moment because the javascript function called by onclick does not know how to call the perl method on server side to unlock files.

Do you really need to lock the files before the workflow is instantiated? Do you expect it to take so long to fill in the instantiation form that the lock is required at that point?

Instead - why not have an externaltask or cgitask at the start of the workflow that first checks to see if the files have already been associated with another job - if so - error out, if not - then lock them.

And another thing - why are you bothering to do this in javascript? If you're doing it within the wft - why not just code it in Perl within the <template_script>...</template_script> section?
