Error saving with certain applications

This past weekend we upgraded to TeamSite 6.5 SP2. Almost everything is working great. The one issue that we are having is that people are having trouble saving files when in certain applications.

First of all, our users are set up with their Y: drive mapped to the Y: drive on the TeamSite server. So rather than using the "My Local Files" they just save directly to the server in their workarea.

The problem first showed up when a user edited a file using Dreamweaver. When they went to hit the save button, they received a message that "an unknown error has occurred" and they couldn't save it. However, if they did a "save as" it worked fine. TeamSite launched Dreamweaver when they hit edit on the file, so it obviously knows it exists, and if they use a different program (notepad, visual studio, etc) saving works just fine.

I just got another call from someone using Adobe Photoshop when they tried to save an image to our image directory that stated "Could not save a copy to Y:\main\...\image.jpg because of a disk error"

Anyone run into issues like this before?

Giving users direct access to the Y drive. After I get over my initial chills I can tell you that I just tried it using Dreamweaver MX Version 6 and it worked using Save.

I am mapped as a user in our windows domain who has admin access to the Windows 2000 server we are using.

Believe me, I didn't set it up this way....

I don't have Dreamweaver on my machine so it is hard for me to duplicate the issue. I guess I'll have to try to log in on their machine to see if I get the same message since I have more rights than they do.

Using Teamsite 6.5 SP2 on Win 2003 EE server with the latest patch, I am running into the same issue with Dreamweaver saving on a Y drive mapped on my client computer. The error I am getting is "An unknown error occured while accessing Y:\..." It is having some issue accessing Dreamweaver's tmp files to do a save. The file then is deleted. I would do another save and get a save as dialog box and it will save after that.

I have had issues with UltraEdit32 as well. It has a problem saving the .bak file when using this, but it actually saves.

Another thing I noticed as well. When I go to the Y drive mapped onto my computer, I would navigate to my workarea and just create a text file, it will create, but when I try to rename the file I get an error that says the parameter is incorrect. I can also delete the text file with no problem.

All of these issues started right after we attempted to upgrade from TS 6.1 SP1 to TS 6.5 SP2, but we had problems with the upgrade and we had to just do a fresh install of TS 6.5 (Web Daemon would not come up)

It is having some issue accessing Dreamweaver's tmp files to do a save.
I have had issues with UltraEdit32 as well. It has a problem saving the .bak file when using this, but it actually saves.

I'm not sure about Dreamweaver, UE on the other hand can (and IMHO should) be configured not to leave .bak files all over the place.
Get to Advanced->Configuration->BackUp Tab and set "Default BackUp Directory" somewhere on your local Drive.

Perhaps something similar may ease your Dreamweaver's temp file problem as well?

There is a way with Dreamweaver (creating a site off the mapped Y drive...) but it takes DW too long to go back and forth from the local C drive and upload to Y.

The business unit does not use UltraEdit, but I just wanted to test it since I knew it created a .bak file when saving and I had a feeling I would have some sort of error associated with that.

Is there anything though I can do to fix the problem so my business users can save directly on Y drive without getting the errors? Is there a problem the virtual Y drive or is it the iw-store that I am actually having a problem with?

Can't help with Dreamweaver, we do not use it.

Please note that virtual drive Y: is just a File System interface to iw-store. iwserver *fools* OS to beleive that such an animal exists.
It may be benefitial to double-check that your software does not try to write in read-only areas like STAGING or EDITION
and that the user has writing credentials to places it does try to write

The Dreamweaver software is not writing into the EDITIONS or STAGING directories. It will open files from their workarea where the business unit can edit files (the editing happens directly on the Y drive) so there is no uploading from their local drive. This was how we did it with TS 6.1 SP1 and we did not have issues with this, only after the upgrade to 6.5.
