i need help on how to encrypt data through perl

please let me know what module is used to do this.

the prefered algo would be TRIPLE DES

I'm almost positive you'll need to either of these modules on top of IWPerl, you could use TripleDES or (probably better) Crypt::TripleDES. Both of these are available from CPAN (http://www.cpan.org).

but now i have another issue ... can i call a java module that would return the encrypted text back

Yes pass the data to a java program and then get back the encrypted text within your perl script.

I am not sure if can call a java objects directly from the perl scripts.

there is a module Inline::Java that can be used to create a java class in the perl script.
