WSMP Simple Search
jman
Hi,
WSMP4.1SP1
In the web interface, the simple search is limited to search on the current workspace. Is there any way to modify the search scope to becomes bigger e.g. to make it to search on all the workspaces under the current facility?
This question is actually from the customer that their end user may think that the search is not working simply because the content they are looking for is not on the current workspace (but on some other workspace).
Thanks,
John

You can apply search for multiple workspaces. Goto - My WorkSite (at top of the page) - Configure WorkSpaces - and select workspaces. You will be able to perform search on selected workspaces now.
Thanks Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,
When I click to the "My WorkSite" page, the "configure workspaces" is only available under "Appointment" and "Workflow". I think its for showing appointments and workflow for the selected workspace.
I did test it by selecting all the workspaces in the "configure workspaces" under "My WorkSite", but the behaviour in Simple Search doesn't change. Maybe my setting is not correct, do you have more information on this?
Thanks,
John
Nicholas
John, you can refer chapter searches in web comp guide for details.
Thanks Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,
I went scan through the "search" section on the web component user guide, but didn't find anything related to changing the simple search behaviour....
Would you mind giving me more details on where to find the information.
Thanks,
John

Here are some more information to achieve your task.
You can create the extended search from simple search option for this you can login to WCT - Select View set - Searches - Add, here you can define your scope for the search. documents only, general (for all WSMP objects), workspaces only and custom selected WSMP objects. Once you created the search, you will get the readymade jsp pages those you can customise according to your need. then, From User interface you can define your search by clicking the Advanced (at top of the page) and then you can define your custom need. The extended search component you created in POINT 1, you can select and simply could define the Search string and Location, if your case it would be All Workspaces or selected WorkSpaces (once you select this option, interface will ask for workspace selections, you can select specific workspaces here) and other search attributes. You can save this search aslo.

Hi Nicholas,
Maybe we're not on the same track....
I can understand and tried to add custom search form. But what I want to achieve is to modify the search scope (to search all workspaces instead of just the current workspace) of the Simple Search i.e. the search button on the upper-right of the interface, but not the Advanced Search page.
Sorry for the confusion and let me know if you have any solution on this.
Thanks,
John

hmm. you are talking about the basic search. but Dear, if basic search doesn't help that's why Advanced search is there so that you can have more search options.
I don't think that search is customizable, may be you want to contact support then.
Thanks Nicholas

Sorry to cut in.
I am from another customer, we got the same problem. My users simply think that is a bug. When they search something very obvious, that the system return nothing can be found...
We strongly think that the simple search must be changed to search for all workspaces, whereas the Advanced search would be a function to zoom in and focus for specific workspaces.

Sue, you're right, my client also get used to google type of search, and they just can't find something they think should be able to search...
It would be nice if there's a server side setting to set the scope of the Simple Search to either current workspace or all workspaces....would be great if it's a per user setting (if performance is not an issue).
By the way, is devnet a proper channel to raise feature request?
John
Nicholas
DevNet is to discuss the things with other working iw folks.
You need to contact support and make a feature request separately.
Thanks Nicholas
