We recently upgraded to 6.1.0. As I was debugging an issue I noticed the following entry in the od.log file:

Product Type : full
Trial Period (days) : 30
Trial start : April 26, 2006 1:31:39 PM EDT
Trial expire : May 26, 2006 1:31:39 PM EDT
Current date : May 10, 2006 1:48:14 PM EDT
-----------------

This entry is confusing, because it states "Production Type: full" and "Trial Period: 30".

So, which is it a full or trial install? Do I need to activate the install, somehow, so it's not a trial copy?

Interwoven is becoming more exacting about licensing these days (about time really) - and by default, the license you get for 6.1 is a "trial license" for 30 days. You need to get a full license from the Support web site - or, potentially, by sending email to supportadmin@interwoven.com -- you may need to be prepared to provide proof of licensing for the product(s).

As for the "Product Type: full" - that simply means you have the full "OpenDeploy" product - not the "EasyDeploy" version.

Its a "Product Type" not a "Production Type"

You have trial copy which is valid for 30 days unless you get a OD license which can be generated on support site

I think Product Type -full means you are running a base server with add-on modules.

Licensing questions should go to your sales critter. However since you are not upgrading anything there is nothing on the receiver to read (or check for) a new license.

Now IIRC, there is a configuration change, so that each receiver and sender are in sync, they need to know the rev of each other. There was a patch required because the older receivers did not understand the release 6 sender. Check the support site for that.

Hi,

You won't need to license your older OpenDeploy 5.6 receivers. However when you upgrade your receivers, you will need to generate a license for them. If you have a fair number of receivers, there is an upgrade/license deployment that you can use to automatically upgrade all your receivers and license them.

You may want to restate this Heather. Every OD receiver requires a license to be purchased from Interwoven. However only with the 6.1 release of OD is a license key generated and installed on a OD receiver.

We do not want someone to think they can just drop a receiver on any system they want to and use it.

Sorry Andy- I should have been clearer.

Every instance of an OpenDeploy receiver, or base server must have been purchased, which grants you the license for that specific instance of the installation. In post 6.1, you need a license key to activate your server. If you purchased these for your earlier version of OpenDeploy, it just means that you need to generate a license key for OpenDeploy (this method is similar to TeamSite). If you aren't sure how many servers/receivers you have purchased, you'll need to speak to your account executive. If you aren't sure who that is, you can send an email to supportadmin@interwoven.com

The question was totally related to technical side of the aspect. If the deployment will work or not without license file on the old already running servers.

Dont you think life will be miserable if we try to read too much between the lines :-)
