We can call any IPL from datacature using callserver... but Is there any other way to call an IPL on onSave event of form handler.. without using callserver?

No, I think callserver is the only way to send a request to TeamSite server and get the respone. Is there any why for not using callserver to execute your script?

It depends on what you're trying to do - if you want to run a script after the DCR has been saved and closed - you cn look at workflows and/or iwat triggers. If you need to do it within the confines of editing the DCR - no, there's no other way.

parameters.Taxonomy = item.getValue();

IWDatacapture.callServer("/iw-bin/checkTaxonomyNodes.ipl", parameters, true);

Is above the correct way of passing parameters... Also tell me how to retrieve this parameter in checkTaxonomyNodes.ipl??

Well, I don't think that's entirely true, if you're willing to make some assumptions. After all, this is just JavaScript with an API loaded on top of it. If you can count on your users having a recent enough browser, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use AJAX to communicate. Though, I must admit, I also see no particular reason to prefer AJAX over callServer.

That looks right, if I remember correctly. To access it, you would use whatever methods you would normally use to access form values. The name of the field in this case would be "Taxonomy". The callServer routine takes your object and uses it's attributes as form variables, which are passed to your handler.

Since your original code was:

Here i'm facing one problem... when i'm trying to save the datacapture form.. the callserver is calling the mentioned ipl and doing the things... but it is not opening the save window... so I'm not able to save the dcr...

Do you have any idea why this is happening..

You need to read the manuals and search the forums a bit more - if you're running this CallServer during an onSave event it's your responsibility to get all the standard parts of the save process called correctly in the proper order - otherwise the system assumes you've taken care of things your own way and won't try to prompt for anything.

To begin with you're going to have to explicitly return 'false' after you do the CallServer - and the script you use for CallServer will then have to invoke some "callback" function to continue the save procecssing.

CallServer, and its affect on other code, is probably the most complicated aspect of working with FormAPI - so take your time doing the research because you're going to need to spend a bit of time figuring out how all the pieces work together.

One more problem we are getting with callout scripts..

In above code the IPL (taxonomytest.ipl) is setting a numeric value to calling text field but when we are trying to save this form it's giving error "Required fields have not been filled" for Taxonomy...

Once we click explicitly in the text field, it works fine... this problem we are facing with all last callout of each form... I'm not sure whether it's a bug or we need to do some configuration for this...

It could be a bug. What version of TeamSite (including SP's and patches) are you running? Have you contacted Support? (if not, you probably should)

You would be returning false from the function where you did the CallServer - not from the script invoked by the CallServer (though you might have reason to do it from there too?)

The script you invoke from the CallServer would have to perform a callback, by way of calling another function in your FormAPI code, to complete whatever process you interrupted by doing the CallServer. Usually this is best done by imbedding FormAPI code into your script and accessing the FormAPI via the getScriptLayer() function (RTFM: FormAPI manual for details)
