Configuring distributed TS search environment

Hi,
I need some assistance in configuring a distributed TS search environment:

We installed
1. TS 6.5 SP2 on Win2003 SP1 (my TS-Server)
2. TS Search 1.0 on Win2003 SP1 (my Search-Server). Index and Search service are installed, configured and running, we also indexed two of our branches without any problems.

The configuration of the index and search service on Search-Server was no problem, but
how is it possible to configure my CCPro on my TS-Server, so that the Search-Server is requested and not "localhost"?
If I click on a search button in CCPro, I get an "communication failed" error message.

Any hints?

I believe that you need to ensure that the partitions (or directories) used on your Search Server are mounted and fully accessible on your TS server "as-if" they were local directories there.

Adding to this, the problem we faced with search was that TS and your search should be compatable. If you have TS6.5 SP2, please make sure that you have Seach 1.0 SP2. Then index your branches using CLT and then see if you get the same error from you CCpro.

it was an incomplete problem description I gave before:
we're on TS search 1.0 SP2 on our search server.

My understanding of TS search is, that CCPro connects to the search service if an user clicks on a search button.
But from where does CCPro know, which server is the right search server to connect?

Perhaps another point to think about:
I activated the services in the following way:
1. TS-Server: all TS services, CCPro and so on...
2. Search-Server: contains search service and index service

Is it possible, that the search service has to be run on the TS-Server?
=>
1. TS-Server: all TS services, CCPro and search service
2. Search-Server: only contains index service
I understand the documentation not in the second way and installed it like described before, but perhaps I'm wrong...

Hi,
documentation says that the search service and the index service need shared access to a filesystem
(the indexer creates the verity indices, the search service reads them...).
There's nothing to find about a shared filesystem access from the TS-Server to the index filesystem.
I intend to open a support case, 'cause I think the installation of a distributed search environment isn't fully documented...

I suggest that the above configuration should not be used as the search and index servers are supposed to be on the same machine as they access the same file system which holds the collections(indexes). Also if the folder is mounted and shared for the two services there might be performance hit as the search server now has to look into the collections on the separate machine and all the communication between the search agents and colections is over the network.

Can u please elaborate on main objective for installing the search server on the the TS server machine?

Have you tried modifying the cssdk.cfg with the search server name & port? That is the file which identifies the search server.
There is no absolute requirement to run search on the TeamSite server. Having (search & index) on a separate server works.
