Any way to get windows thumbnails as previews?
maltobello
Hi,
We're starting out with MediaBin, and have some users that would like to add some non-supported file types (Google SketchUp skp, wmf, raw). Is there any way to configure MB to create previews of these files, or alternately use the windows thumbnails as previews (skp and wmf files show previews in windows explorer when the app is installed)? Also, what is required for RAW support?
Thanks
Mike

I do not think there is anyway to do custom previewing.

Afraid the short answer is "no". Currently we produce programatically for each image six previews represented as RGB jpegs in sizes from 512x512 to 16x16 is steps of 2 (technically we specify that each preview should be the largest rectangle of the correct aspect ration fitting into those dimensions provided the preview never exceeds the dimensions of the original image).
However, we are always adding new formats and are always interested in hearing what formats customers would be most interested in our supporting.
Cheers,

In addition to Lyman's comments, MediaBin 4.6 is targeted to support DNG and RAW file formats. We will be announcing the targeted GA date shortly. Please let us know if you would be interested in assisting with beta for these new formats.

It's very time-consuming, but you can ask MB to use the preview of an asset as the preview for another asset.
Thus, if you insert a RAW image and a JPG image obtained from the RAW one, you can then tell MB to use the preview of the JPG asset for the RAW asset.
At this point, you can delete the JPG asset because you no longer need it.
Told you it's time-consuming...
