MediaBin Deployment Agent - filelist based deployment
Aryan
Hello All,
I need some info on the MB Deployment agent.
Can I do a file list based deployment using MB Deployment agent?
Thanks,
Aryan.

Could you define "filelist based deployment?"

Thanks for the info.
Can I have a teamsite workflow trigger the deployment of MediaBin assets, using the deployment agent. (Assuming I have the list of files to be deployed.)

Deployment Agent can be triggered to execute a schedule on demand by an external process. However, you can't pass in a known list of assets to it via a function call. There are a couple of ways you could implement this:
1. Add a custom metadata field to the files you want to deploy, set that field to a value that Deployment Agent can then use in a search to locate those assets in MediaBin. Deployment Agent schedules can be set up to include search criteria to determine what to deploy.
OR
2. Add a custom processing step to Deployment Agent. This step would be after P2. P2 is where Deployment Agent determines what to be deployed. Your schedule would find nothing. However, your new processing step would look up each asset in MediaBin using the path in the file list, then add the information into Deployment Agent's database table where the list of assets to be deployed for a schedule is maintained.
I believe the first option is easier. I can provide more info to help you along. The Deployment Agent schema is pretty easy to understand. If you haven't seen this document already, it may be helpful to read to better understand the architecture of Deployment Agent.
To trigger a Deployment Agent schedule from an external process which will run within 5 seconds (the default DA poll-for-work interval), you can call the following function in MBDADatabase.dll: Public Function RunSchedule(DataConn, ProjectID, ScheduleID, TestMode, Optional objBTIErr) As Boolean.
The DLL is part of the DA web client and DA service package. The function is exposed as a COM interface function on the Schedules interface of the MBDAdatabase object. This statement creates it from script in the DA web client:
set objSchedules = server.createobject("MBDAdatabase.Schedules")
The DataConn parameter would be the connection string to the database, for example:
driver={SQL Server};uid=sa;pwd=xxxxx;server=mpyles;database=DeploymentAgentDatabase
The project and schedule id are the numeric identifiers for the project and schedule that you want to run. They are the identity column values for the project and schedule in the respective DA database tables.
TestMode should be false.
objBTIErr is used to return error information.
One problem with using this method to kick off a schedule based on a MediaBin event would be that this function returns an error if the schedule is currently running. This code is written to meet the requirements of the DA web client and is not public. You could add a polling interval to keep trying until the schedule stated successfully.
