I have a new requirement. I have done it in ASP and CGI,But I do not know whether it be doable in DCT ?Can some one help me out.Thanks in advance.

Unless you can prepopulate all the javascript arrays for the cross-field value sets - I think you're looking at doing a CallServer script in an onItemChange event handler.

Take a look at the examples that ship with TeamSite - I believe one of them does something similar to what you want (though not using a DB)

I would recommend going this route. Create a javascript object with all of the relationship information and values onFormInit. You need to anyway to populate the two drop downs. Why hit the database again when they change the item?

RTM - FormAPI Developer's Guide - registering an event for an instance of a replicant is the same as for a non-replicant.

Any idea, what function can be used to retrive the index or order of the replcant? ie ..is there any method to get the index of the replicant item which triggered the index?

Why do you need to know the replicant instance? If you really need to, you can use the name of the item object passed in to determine the instance, just parse it out.

I think there is some confusion..

Here there is two combo box inside a replicant item.
On change on the first combo, the second should populate the data based on the selected combo.

So the problem i am facing is that i cannot get the second combo box reference to populate back to the same second combo. how to get the id to where the result is to be populate.

Please find the datacapture,cfg , this should helps things better.

I think there is some confusion..

I agree, you do appear to be confused. Lets say when the first item changes you call an event handler called firstItemOnChangeEventHandler. This function takes in the item object that was changed. Get the name of the item and you know which one it is:

itemObject.getName();

As I said before, you need to do an item.getName() and use the name to determine the replicant instance number. You need to do this in you fetchLocations function and pass it to your callServer and then pass it back to the populateLocations function.

But whn I Edit the DCR which I created, i cannot find the (sub-division)combo box text, but it is populated with the value(NOT the Text).

So I tried to call the fetchlocation function onInit.

But the problem is only the last item value is Set as required.

I'm not really sure what your problem is, your post is somewhat confusing.

Are you trying to get the value or label of an option from a select item? If so, RTFM on .getOptions() and once you have the option you want, use .value to get the value and .text to get the label.

I will explain a bit more.. let me try to make you understand ...

I creatd a DCR with those division/sub-division. I have three replicant items.
Now i close it.
And I tried to edit that DCR. Now instead of seeing the sub-Division combobox text, i am seeing only the "Value" , like the ID. Please find the scrren shot of the error attached. Hope this will make things more clear.

That's because only the value is stored in the DCR.

After you call the fetchlocation function on init for each replicant you'll still have to write code to have the proper value selected.

I'm not sure what the best way to do this is, but I would start by:

JS: oninit check if there is a value in the sub-division field for each replicant. If there is then pass it as a param with the fetchlocation callserver.

PERL: After the PERL has populated the select, check if there was a value passed and if there was, then make that the selected value.

This is the reason I recommended above to store all of the information in javascript objects onFormInit, instead of doing a callServer. By having it in a callServer, you're going to have to call this function once for each replicant, which won't be the best for performance. By having it in a javascript object, you can access it quickly and easily onFormInit, onItemChange or onReplicantAdded and not have to keep hitting the server or the database.

But Griff does have the gist of it. You will need to populate these fields onFormInit, onItemChange and onReplicantAdded. And onFormInit you're going to have to check which value is currently selected and make sure it is selected after you populate the new options.

Correct Jeff, the call server method is not performing as I expected thru the code. ie if we are calling the callserver inside a For loop, only the last one is getting executed corrrectly.. So since i did not had much time to debug, we changed the design.

So now we pupulate the Division combo, then we call a Callout. This will populate the SubDivision of that selected Divsion on a popup window, the user select the appropriate Sudvision on that POPUP and that value is trasferred back to the DCT. This way we solved and is working perfect. ie no issues as of now when we edit the created DCR.
