SSL Just for Logon?

Anyone know if there is a way to configure WSMP to only use SSL for the logon process? Internally, our network admins want us to encrypt the logon process. But, we don't feel there's a need to encrypt *all* the traffic after that, so we want the rest of the session to be without the SSL overhead. Is there any way to do this in WSMP without changing app code?
