iw-webd error.log Permissions

I'm trying to debug a CGI called from TeamSite 6.5 as part of my migration and have hit a snag in viewing the error.log on Solaris. In my environment, I don't have root access (except for some specific commands) and Apache creates the log files with 600 permissions ... which makes it pretty dang difficult to debug when you can't read the error logs.

My 5.5 server has the permissions set to 666 (which probably isn't right either, though it's better), so this SHOULD be possible...just not sure what's not set correctly.

I'd be happy to RTFM if someone would point me to the right manual :-)

Not sure what your question is, but I can tell you that on my system (Solaris 9, TS 6.5 SP2 patch 1614) this file has 644 permissions. They are not in the default location (/var/adm) but set to a specific logs folder (via iw.cfg)

$ ls -l `iwgetlocation iwlogs`/iwui/error_log
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root     2614002 May 23 10:05 /extra/logfiles/gwts/iwui/error_log

That's correct. But somebody has done something non-standard in your httpd.conf.template...

The plain-vanilla version looks like this :
httpd.conf.template:ErrorLog "__IWWEBD_LOGS__/error__IWLOG_EXT__"

On every restart of the iw-webd, this is rewritten into the real config file:
httpd.conf:ErrorLog "/extra/logfiles/gwts/iwui/error_log"

So, your logfile is in a non standard location, and IS BEING rotated (as I suspect by the | /config/interwoven/bin/rotatelogs). Probably the logrorator isn't properly configured to set 644 permissions on new files. Or it's just follows root's umask?

Question is whether your old 5.5 server is using the same logrotator... and whether the same umask is set on both servers.
