Livesite and SSI

Hi everybody,
I have a problem...
I use Livesite without the runtime.
My requirement is to include (with server side include) the header and footer in a .page, because if I change something (i.e. in the header) no upgrade of the component is needed.

1. What problem are you trying to solve by using SSI?

My idea is to create a component that lynk an html page by SSI, so I can change html and immediatly see the result without regererate all site.

That is part of the idea behind component-based web content management -- it allows you to develop the component and then apply the changes as needed. Since this is meant as a helpful feature, I'm very interested to know which parts of that process are a hindrance to you. We are always trying to make LiveSite more user-friendly so whenever someone tries to "work around" the system we would love to hear suggestions for improving it.

The problem with SSI is the follow, in the preview page SSI is ignored by livesite.

That is somewhat tricky. For starters, make sure your include references a file in the local area and uses $URL_PREFIX, or $PAGE_LINK, like this:

(If you are including an entire page, you will want to create a custom Layout Type to render the page without HTML and BODY elements.)

Then, there are two ways to preview. If you Generate HTML from this file, and your web server is set up to handle SSI (for example, on Windows, you need to set up IIS to handle the SSI), then you can rename the generated HTML page to .shtml and it should do the include. Alternately, you can use UITK configurations to copy the Generate HTML command and produce a "Generate SHTML" command.

This won't work during WYSIWYG editing or page preview, though. For this to work, you would need to produce an "SSI Component" that includes another page or file. You will need to write an external class that loads the other included page, and a component stylesheet that injects it into the page. When running in Runtime/Generation mode, this component would instead write out the SSI include directive.
