customize copy/move/delete functionality of TS

Hi all,

I want to customize the copy/move/delete functionality of the TS. I want to stroe the directory structure in the TS in the database.

I have done this using cgi but I want to try this using Java. I went through the UICG guide and it gave me ood insight for this customization but still few things where I am not completely sure like

1. Do I need to create servlet for each of the custom menu item and invoke JSP using that servlet and push the information to DB using JDBC connection.
2. Or a simple JSP should help to achieve this where I can call command URLs for different items and then invoke my java classes in the form of the servlet to deploy information to database.
3. Do I need to use CSSDK for this? I have not used this before Smiley Sad

I would appreciate if someone can share the sample code for this.

You do not have to do it this way. This is simply a design question.

Any reasons why should not we use servlet? As we are not modifying any thing from user interface so we may not require to invoke through a JSP isnt?

as i said this is a design question(MVC). i think in this case it is unnecessary.

I am not sure if I understand your sentence correctly.
You need to customize the user interface to use your custom copy/move. This can be done via custom JSPs. They can call a servlet or directly a java class.

We can create normal src/com/interwoven/corp etc on our local machine but when we need to test the code then we need to deploy this on the TS by copying manually the java classes and then build the UI using make_toolkit.ipl

Is there any other simple way so that we can test this in Java IDE itself rather than copying to TS env every half an hour....I tried to find this information in the UICG guide but not much information ... any pointers/RTFM are much appreciated

Use the CSSDK on your locale machine, all you need are the relevant jar files. You can communicate via SOAP with the TeamSite Server.

For testing run your code on your locale application server (e.g tomcat) or in your IDE(e.g. eclipse).

How to set up SOAP is described in the link (Webcast 506) i posted earlier.

I am not able to install CSSDK on my local machine because of JVM incompatibility issue although spent some time on this and able to achieve quite a bit of things for this customization....

I am posting here my current approach for this

1. Copy the IWOV create_directory.jsp file in the IWOV customer_src area
2. Change the create_directory.jsp file and invoke the custom servlet on form submission.
3. Change the ui_custom.xml file so that link should point to custom jsp file.
4. Change the web.xml file to intercept the servlet request.

using this when I click on the new folder link it shows me the IWOV new directory form. After giving the folder name and click on the ok button it invokes the servlet in which I am able to do the IWOV folder creation operation and db connectivity in my service access layer.

This works fine and suffice my needs for the moment but I am not very sure if this is the best way to approach this problem. Any comments are appreciated.

still I am keen to achieve this using cssdk and building my application from local machine rather than using make_toolkit every time... painful process Smiley Sad

what JVM incompatibility issue did you run into? what ide and app server are you using?

your approach is correct, but i would not use parts of the Interwoven create_directory.jsp.
modifications and/or use of that code are not supported and that code is subject to changes without documentation changes by Interwoven.
better write a create_directory.jsp with CSSDK functions from scratch.

Agreed on create_directory.jsp thing, this can cause issues while upgrading the CMS but this is quickest possible way I can see at the moment...

How do we show the error messages in this implementation...like "directory already exists" etc
As per IWOV code they use commands.xml for the forwards but not able to see any way to update the commands.xml... If I update this file in the webapps then when ever we run install_webapps.ipl it will be over written. How can we leverage the IWOV error functionality for this ?

You do not need to install the cssdk client, just copy the relevant jar files in your project lib folder. i use eclipse and atg(tested tomcat as well).

well, it may be quicker in the beginning, but it is not so easy to extend and to maintain.
