Finding TS server name in DCT

Hi,

I have the following link in DCT.
<![CDATA[<a target="new" title="help" href="http://111.11.11.111/iw-cc/help/a1.pdf">Help</a>]]>
Is there any way to get the TS server name, so that I can replace the ip address without hardcoding it. I tried 'localhost', but it is giving 'page can't be displayed error'.

If your environment is Windows, here is one of the way...

var server = window.location.hostname;
IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/l", params);

Have you tried simply href="/iw-cc/help/a1.pdf"? Please note leading slash.

But it is not calling the method. I am trying to add the event handler

If I am not wrong...

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler (/link1,onClick,openHelp);

In the above line '/link1' is the link name, it should be the item name. I am not too sure if the link name can be give in the ItemHandler...

Try with item name and see if it works.

It looks like you (or your Client) can not make up your mind. What do you want?
Your post shows a mish-mash of three distinctly different approaches.

1. Set help Link in item Description. Something like the following will do it:
<label><![CDATA[<a href="/iw-cc/help/a1.pdf" target="_blank");">Help</a>]]></label> OR
<label><![CDATA[<a href="#" onClick="javascript&colon;window.open('/iw-cc/help/a1.pdf', '' ,' scrollbars=no, menubar=no, height=600, width=800,resizable=yes,toolbar=no, location=no, status=no');">Help</a>]]></label>

2. Set help Link in FormAPI, as a callout, I guess - you are vague here.
To do that, you'd have to create another (callout) item hext to the one in question, like "Help" button and process it from FormAPI by opening
whatever window you want.

3. "I am trying to use a method in tag..."
It can be done, sure. Question is, why? You showed a method but did not bother to explain where is it located or how you tried to invoke it

I think you're close but aren't combining the alternatives to meet your objective. You should be able to define your openHelp function within <script>...</script> tags as you suggest - and then in the <label>...</label> portion (which is a label not a description) you can use the <a href="..." onClick="javascript&colon; Smiley Surprised

penHelp(...)"/>Help< code.

The above is guess-work - as I have not tried this - but it seems to me it should do the trick since the href/onClick gets you the link where you want it and the openHelp() gets you the window the way you want it with the fully qualified URL.

Thanks fish. This is simple issue in JavaScript. Write a method/fucntion and call either in href or onClick, but my bad luck, it is not working for me. Is there anything special I need to put for DCT compared to normal javascript?
Something is missing or the place of link is inside the <description> tag above the <container> tag may causing the problem.

Perhaps you need to get to the script frame, using top.getScriptFrame(). So, you're href would look something like:

<a href="..." onClick="javascript&colon;top.getScriptFrame().openHelp(...)">Help</a>

I think it should work fine for PDF regardless of the path type. Perhaps you have to turn off smart context editing for pdf, doc, images and whatnot.

If no JS function and giving the direct path of PDF, it is working and displaying the PDF file. To remove the address bar and buttons and without hardcoding server name, I would like to go for JS function.

But if we go for DCT view(Preview), both are not displyaing the PDF. Oject doesn't support this method.

I guess "Object doesn't support this method" is a JS error you are getting. The reason is that FormAPI is only applicable
in Edit mode. Your openHelp method is simply not there. So:
Switch off smart context editing and you shoud be able to use relative path without any extra code in any mode.
Another option is to set a dedicated site for help pdf's so that hardcoded domain will be the same in various TS Environments
