Revert to Edition Script

Hello-

We have a number of branches that are used as training sites for a custom content management application. the training involves editing content, moving it to staging, taking an edition and deploying it.

I need to write a script that will reset these sites to their initial edition and delete all the editions that were created during the training.

My plan was to write a script that would:

-Create a new workarea based on the initial edition of the current workarea
-delete all editions (looks like there is no CLT for this...will need to manually delete from the filesystem)
-delete the current workarea
-rename the new workarea to the old one

Does this seem to be the best way to go about this? Any advise would be appreciated.

When you say "based on the initial edition" - you're not talking about the edition named "INITIAL" are you? If so - I believe that is empty and you could just delete and re-create the branch rather than worrying about all the editions.

Another possibility is to create a secondary store that you only activate periodically for the purpose of re-creating the branch (check with your IWOV representative to see if this constitutes sufficient use of MultiStore to require payment/licensing - if not ...) then you could just blow away the branch in the default store, activate the saved store, iwmigrate the branch back into the default store, create the workarea, and deactivate the saved store. Depending on the number of editions and the number of changes made between its initial state and when you go to refresh it - this might be more efficient than deleting each edition 1-by-1 (not sure though)
