Autonaming dcr

Hi,
I need to provide an autonaming functionality for the DCRs. The name of the DCR created is equal to the value of field1+field2.

finalFileName=field1+field2

I am using the function
IWDCRInfo.setDCRName(finalFileName);

and this works fine.

Is there a way to alert the user if the value that they provide in field1+field2 is the value of another file already created in the directory and if they save, will replace that file.

Within same formAPI, where you are using setDCRName ... set a call to a cgi script using callserver on event onSaveValid, which checks for all the validation for duplicacy.

You can alert or even show the error on screen and asking the user to confirm .. what he needs to be done.

I am very sceptical with the callServer during onSaveValid event because, callServer is an asynchronous thread whose return value is caught by another function.

Also what should be the return value of the function that has the callServer function.

Thats your thought... but i am comfortable using the same.

Your callServer would not return any value; it will just provide return as false or just continue to end.

Could you elaborate on the callServer function . I could not get it working.

I have attached the files,

In the dct MessageGroup item and the Type constitute the file name and the Type value constitutes the sub-directory under the data directory. So onSaveValid I call the function setFileName(), which inturns callServer to get the files in the directory.

The problem is there is no effective save. I am not sure of the return values and how this is going to work.

Please advise.

I got it to work. I had not included the
IWDatacapture.save();

in isFileExist()

Because of the asynchronicity, you may need to to check that the call to setDCRName() has completed before invoking your validation function. Since javascript lacks a sleep() function, you'll have to set that up yourself with careful use of setTimeout().

I have an implementation where I decided that I could trust the return value of IWDCRInfo.getStatus() to tell me of the existence of the file. If the value is IWDCRInfo.AVAILABLE, I assume the file exists. If it's IWDCRInfo.PENDING, I need to set a timeout and reinvoke the validation function. If it's IWDCRInfo.UNAVAILABLE, I assume it's ok to save.

The code in question has passed QA, but I don't have it in production yet, so it still comes with a disclaimer. Your mileage may vary. Offer not valid in Canada. etc. etc. etc.
