Server/location configuration query

Can someone of a medium/large law firm advise me on how they set up there global Interwoven servers.

I currently have 6 libraries in the UK that all of Europe use and 1 library in the US.

The problem I have is that we need all 7 libraries available worldwide but currently accesses a library in the US from Europe is very slow. Can anyone explain how they have there set up?
