Role Issue in 6.7

Bhargav Coca

As per the documentation and the webcast, it is quite evident as how we can manipulate users, groups and Roles. When experimenting with a user Role which i have created, I have this user "DemoUser1" having permissions that of a "Auhtor" "Reviewer" and "DemoUserRole". I have a attached a jpeg where the role is assigned to this user.

When i log in as this particular user(DemoUser1), i cannot create new form, all that new form attributes are grayed out for me. Can anyone correct me as where i am going wrong?

Thank you

The delegable roles that are captured in your screenshot are not an indication of the privileges that the role has. It only points to the set of roles that a user belonging to demorole can assign to other users on that branch. In order to control user privileges, you must check the create form, create file permissions on the definition of the demorole. Can you expand all privileges in the demorole role screen and see if the create form privilege has been enabled?

Also - it is always recommended that you create a custom role from an existing role and not start from "None" as that option. That way you will all the privileges of the role you started with and then you can treak individual privileges as needed..

Thank you Sunil for quick Reply. Yes, I have done exactly as you have explained in the Demo . I have created this RoleStarting with "Administrator" and gave it a name "DemoUserRole" and click next, now one would see
"DemoUserRole" on 'Available' List box and all other roles on the 'selected' list box.

Now i moved the administrator and Editor into available and Kept Author and Reviewer in the "selected" box. I saved and logged back as DemoUser1 who has a DemoUserRole assigned to him. Since as a DemoUser1 i have previlages of author and reviewer (DemoUserRole), so i should be able to edit and create new Forms. But for some reason, i couldn't. Please correct me if i am wrong.

I am Taking this paragraph from Admin Manual From 6.7 Documentation.

There some mistake here, needs to be corrected. ITs on page 69 of admin guide.
"The Roles that role can delegate field is used to specify role delegation permissionos. When a
user is granted permission to delegate, that user can assign roles to other users on that store
or branch. For example, if a user has a role such as Administrator that allows delegation of
Editors, the Administrator can assign users the Editor role on that branch. To allow
delegation, move the role from the Available to the Selected field by highlighting the role"
This is confusing to me.

I could guess, but it might be nicer if you posted how you resolved this so other people could benefit from the information....

Ok Adam, Here it is. It is very well explained in the webcast for 6.7 beta. One can set Roles to the user from the Content tab.
Click on the branch and on the top right there is a link called Users & Roles, click that and then add user and role for him. If one has to add Roles to the user (Author, Reviewer, Editor), he has to add this user 3 times for 3 different roles. This is easy from a point of view of 6.7.

But in my opinion. 6.5 role allotment is easier than 6.7. But 6.7 gives more control i guess.

Thank you
