How can we create a link in one dms which the document is in the other dms?

My company has 3 dms servers and we would like to have another dms server which contains all the links from these 3 dms servers. Just wonder how can we do that? Can we create a link on a dms server which links to a document located in different dms server.

Easiest way out can be (if ur setup permits) map the drive where ur doc is, onto the server where u want to store the links... this will work!

Thank you for your post. Can we just use Interwoven API to do it? Permissions are a bit strict in my company. Those DMS Server have private and public docs. So Shared drive is not recommended in this case.

I am not sure about the APIs for this, but if u can put these docs under the docroot of a webserver, with proper permissions, u can access those links... For this u have to manage the proper permissions. I hope u can build on this.

There isn't a way via the SDK API's to build a reference to a document of one server to be linked to by another server. You must stay within a connected server in order to see the linked document.

You may however, build your own NRL file that has the necessary content for the NRL.exe to open and connect to the server to which the document belongs. This will allow the end-user to logon to the server (where the document resides) and see the document.

The nrl content looks something like this:
[SERVERNAME]
[ObjectID]
[Version]
Latest=Y

The ObjectID is the value retuned by the IManDocument.ObjectID Property (which is documented in the COM Reference manual in the SDK) e.g., "!nrtdms:0:!session:NTDEVSUPPORT:!database Smiley Very Happy
