Environment Details:
TS 6.5 Installed
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 (client installed)

1.Pls let me know the compatible version DBI,DBD Smiley Surprised

2.Is we require C++ compiler or MSSDK or Visual studio .Net release(2003)?
3What need to be set as environment variables for the installtion of the above said modules.
4.If anybody has steps/procedures to install the above said modules pls let me know.

You can find this from cpan.org. Don't forget to check the release notes.

If you want to compile DBD, etc. you will need a compiler (and related tools/libraries). On windows you can use Visual Studio or cygwin.

3What need to be set as environment variables for the installtion of the above said modules.

PATH for compiler tools, Perl, etc. INCLUDE for headers, and LIB for libraries. This is not a comprehensive list, it all depends on your specific environment.

Sorry I don't have that. Perhaps somebody else might have. If you search the forums you will get a overall idea. Then just follow the details from release notes for the modules, etc.

I installed the Visual studio .Net release(2003) and latest modules of DBI and DBD and set the required environment variables and able to install properly without any error.

I did the following :-
1. Microsoft Visual C++ toolkit 2003
2. Windows SDK
3. Microsoft .net framework 1.1
I tried to install it from CPAN command line and by downloading from the CPAN site as well.
But in both the cases it is giving me tke error as Linker: not found.
We have Oracle 8i Client installed on the Teamiste server
Please help.

The DBD for Oracle comes with about 50 README files, some are "generic" and some are platform-specific - have you read through them?

Okay - the other issue here, which probably won't be covered in the README file - is that iwperl is essentially a Windows compiled version of the normal Unix distribution - as opposed to ActiveState Perl.

This means that iwperl comes with the cpan utility instead of the ppm utility.

I've tended to find that the cpan utility (at least the one that comes with iwperl) does not work all that well on Windows.

The issue with the linker seems to be a question of how the Makefile was built via the Makefile.PL script that comes with the distribution. You'll probably have to dig through the Makefile to see how it is defining the linker and then try to figure out if your MSVC++ toolkit comes with a suitable alternative. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there - because different linkers may use different command line flags - you will probably have to determine what flags should be used with the linker you have available (this is where the README files should help).

Personally, I haven't had to (nor tried to) build the DBD's on a PC - so there isn't much more I can tell you about how to do it.

I'm not 100% sure here but:

I'm pretty sure you could install with PPM/ActivePerl installed on the TeamSite server and then copy the installed files from site/lib to your target servers iw-perl/site/lib. You'd probably want to go with ActivePerl 5.8 rather than the latest release.

Having said that, it seems that active state no longer build DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle for distribution via their PPM repository. so you'd have to to put in a bit of work to find one.
