Hi,

I am using teamsite 6.5

I have some pages which are showing the following error when i tried to edit.

Unable to edit this file. Could this file (or the form entry this file was generated from) be locked by someone else or in another workarea?

I dont know how to unlock this file.All these files showing this error message are created using Webmaster Role.I have unlocked many times all these files.But still when i use author or editor to edit this page, i am getting this error.Is there an way to solve this problem.Kindly advise.

When was the last time you ran iwfsck on your backing store?
Have you contacted Support?
Have you verified access rights for the various people to the various files and directories?

Seems to be permission problem. Please check as what permissions would get set just after the files are being created or submitted by webmaster.

Also please be clear about the displayed error and your question as both are mixed together. Smiley Wink

In Development For testing purpose i have only one Webmaster,Editor and author.All the webpages are created using webmaster account.Webmaster have full rights to the workarea.Author and editor also have the same rights except some functions like cannot delete workarea, as per the role configuration rules.

I can edit the same page which shows the error using Webmaster account.After editing i unlocked the account using webmaster account.When editor or author tried to edit the same page, i am getting the error message.This happens only with certain files, other files i can edit using author or editor.

Okay - so based on your description - you're reasonably sure it's not a permission issue per se. You still didn't answer the questions regarding the running of iwfsck nor contacting support. I would hope those are clear enough as stated.

Are these templating-based files? If so, are you trying to edit the generated file or the dcr? If the generated file, are you making sure you unlock both the generated file and the dcr?

As you said, my dcr was locked and generated page was not locked.Now i unlocked both and it works.Thank you very much

I face similar error while trying to edit the generated file. Both DCR or generated file are unlocked. But the user has edit permission only to generated file and NOT to DCR file.
Is it mandatory for the user to have edit permission on DCR file as well? Could the error be because of it.
Please let me know.

Yes - it's mandatory for a user who needs the ability to edit the DCR to have permissions to do so. Any attempt to edit the generated file is automatically translated into an attempt to edit the DCR so the two do go hand-in-hand together.
