XP MailSite: "0" byte files
System
Hello All--
My client has recently converted from Windows 2000 to XP Professional. Our users do not have admin. privileges on their laptops. The users connect online (read: follow outlook mode) with trusted login. In Windows 2000, all appeared well. In XP, users highlight on a document from the document grid in MailSite, double click to open. The content opens, however, when the users close the document, new versions as "0" bytes are created. Our users in most cases have not created the new "0" byte documents, however in some cases have.
Have any of you seen this particular issue? If so, what is the resolution? I am thinking that this has something to do with permissions, however, I do not know exactly what.
I've left a duplicate post of this on the WorkSite Admin forum--but I thought I'd post this here--just in case some of you have encountered this particular heartburn.
Please advise.
Kind regards,
Paula DiTallo

Hi, I don't know if it could be the reason, but I have seen some errors which are caused by the mode you close the Microsoft Word, because depending the event is controlled by one integration library or another.
You could test if the 0 byte file is generated closing word using the X button or if you use the normal way (File Menu --> close or exit). Or generates always...When an office is terminated by a not normal way it is possible to generate 0 bytes docs, and documents that remain checked out.
I know this not helpfull, but can give you a clue, maybe the problem is in the iman2k.dot or the imanExt.dll. The different events in office are captured by different libraries.
I know the office2000 integration and the XP are quite different.
I don't know the solution in your particular issue, but maybe this give you a clue to work on.
Hope it helps, regards

Which version of FileSite is this? It sounds like 8.0/8.0SP1 as you are still referring to the app as "MailSite".
Check that you do not have auto versioning turned on -- this will automatically checkin the checked out document (opened from within FileSite) as a new version:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Interwoven\WorkSite\8.0\Common\Options
DWORD
Name:"PreserveOldVersion"
Value:1
If this is key is not enabled, then you should open a ticket with Interwoven Technical Support for assistance.
