Migrate to new server - UNIX

Hi, Getting new TS servers. currently have TS 6.1 SunOS 5.9 on server A.
How do get application & content to server B (SunOS 5.9)
What would be the best way to do this ?
Would someone point me to manual or KB article to address this ?

It is actually easier on Unix than it is on Windows. You can just install TS on the new server (and generate a new license) and then tar the iw-store up and move it to the new server. You may want to use an NFS mount from the old to the new server and use tar pipe to tar to move the data. The tar man page shows the invocation.

A couple points. It would be a good idea to consider upgrading while you do this. If you do then you may want or need to use iwmigrate to move the data, though I doubt you will need to do that.

Also, you did not talk about authentication. Are you using /etc/passwd or ldap ? If it is /etc/passwd you will want to create the same users with the same uid (can't do that on DOS which makes this tougher)

And if need iwmigrate, how to use it ? How would point to new server ? NFS mount ? I guess that would be how. Thanks.

TS 6.1 has been announced EOL (end of life) so you really should consider upgrading. 6.5 is very solid and many companies have it in production. 6.7 is also doing well. I would go there.

Check the manuals about iwmigrate, I do not think you need to, but you could. That will trim down your backingstore size if you wanted to.

Yes, an NFS mount and tar pipe to tar is the best way to move the backingstore.

Talk to your sys admin about the /etc/passwd, you will want to be certain that the users have the same UID on the new server, since TS uses that information in the backingstore & thus is copied over.
