Capturing the click of 'Finish' Button in the DCR

Hi,

I need to do give different behaviour for the 'Finish' and the 'Save' buttons in the DCR. The validation rules for each case should be different.
I tried using the saveHandler function in the javascript. Please find attached the file. I get the correct alert when I click the 'Save' button and the 'SaveAs' button. But all other buttons in the DCR (Finish,preview,generate) passes the Id of the 'Save' event ie 1 to the savehandler. So always the save block is executed. SaveAs passes the Id 2 to the savehandler.
I somehow need to know whether the save is triggered due to 'Save' button or 'Finish' button and give separate set of validations for each.
Please help!

I believe that the

onClose

event fires when the finish button is clicked.

True but that doesn't clarify anything with regard to distinguishing *how* the onClose event was fired (i.e. Close versus Finish, etc.)

Does this help?

The onSave event handler is passed an integer that indicates what button triggered the
event. In this way, the save handler can determine how the save was triggered and behave
differently if necessary:

Hey that's exactly what I'd been trying in the script attached with my post....
But the problem is that it does not recognise the 'Finish', but takes it as just a 'save'.

Following are the integers denoting the clicked button that are passed to the saveHandler function when I run the script.
'Save' passes '1'
'Save As' passes '2'
'Finish' passes '1' itself.
Out of curiosity I tried the 'preview' and 'generate' buttons also, they too passes a value of 1 to the function.

Since both Finish and Save returns 1, the save block in the switch runs and displays 'It is save'.

Have any of you tried this saveHandler buttons. Is there anything else I need to do other than this Script.

I'm attaching the script once more for your reference.

Any help is highlyyyyy appreciated.

I use that mechanism in 6.5 - all works as documented. I do not have 6.1 handy but such a glaring bug
(if it is indeed a bug) would have been reported long time ago. Are you sure you do not have
some hacks, code customization, etc...?

So, that's what I would do if I were you:

1.Make sure that you modify DCR between tests. For example, test 'Save', modify DCR, test 'Save As'.
Save event will not fire if DCR has been already saved.

2. Get to iwhome/httpd/webapps/content_center/formspub
Read datacapture.js and Check constant Definitions: Here is a fragment from 6.5

datacapture.SaveAsBtn = 2;
datacapture.SaveAndCloseBtn = 3;
datacapture.PreviewBtn = 4;
datacapture.GenerateBtn = 5;

I just downloaded your code and moved the onSave event and it's function, saveHandler ,into my code and the Finish button returns a 3 for me and the function works.

TS 6.5 sp2
Windows 2003

But all other buttons return 1. I tried saving the Modified DCR before clicking these buttons. Still it returns 1.

I checked these files. 'datacapture.js' does'nt have anything related to this. But yes, 'dcapi_datacapture.js' has the following snippet.

Not nessessarily. We know that proper constants exist, that on it's own does not guarantee that proper constant is passed
to the handler upon event.
