upgrading opendeploy 5.6 to 6.1

i am in the process of making an upgrade plan for teamsite and opendeploy.
i think i have clear plan for teamsite, but i never asked any questions about OpenDeploy:
to upgrade opendeploy from 5.6 to 6.1, can i just install 6.1 on the top of the old one?
or do we have to do it on totally separate clean machine, and just configure it like the old open deploy? i m not very sure about opendeploy upgrade, anybody has done it before? any recommendations or suggestions?

I believe most of the OD upgrades are pretty simple and installing on top of a previous version usually works just fine.

The areas you need to be concerned with usually have to do with the installation directory name and scripts and/or service names.

For example, both OD5.6 and OD6.1 use

****/OpenDeployNG/

as the value of odhome - but OD5.6 uses

/etc/init.d/iwod

and

/etc/defaultiwodhome

(on Unix) and

IWODHOME

environment on Windows - but OD6.1 uses

/etc/init.d/iwod60

,

/etc/defaultiwod60home

, and

IWOD60HOME

respectively.

So the upgrading of OD is pretty simple, but you may need to adjust some of your custom scripts that used to interact with OD via the above files and/or environment variables.

I think that's it (though I admit, it's been a while since I've had to do an OD upgrade).
