simple iwidmap question

I am on 6.5 with sp2. I have refered to the iwidmap thingy form KB, as everyone knows this has to be done when you are migrating users and groups.

My question is, that i have to remplace the the NAME part with actual name of the user i.e "DOMAIN\Username" instead of the S10-1108982.. part. But mu question is how do you know which token is for which user. becuase my store.idmap looks like this, what should i do next, replace name with different users or replace all the names with only one user. Please clarify.

You need to look at the idmap on the originating server so you can figure out what to map the SIDs to on the new server.

You need to do a full iwidmap (for both user and group) extraction on the originating server.
Then you need to do a full iwidmap (for both user and group) extraction on the new server.
Then you need to compare the user maps.
Then you need to compare the group maps.

If you have entries identified only by SID on the originating server - those represent no-longer-existing accounts or groups - and you will want to map those to someone / some group that does exist.

Ideally - you should be looking to use domain (or domain-local) or ldap users and groups because that will reduce the number of such un-named SIDs to something on the order of something like 5 (SYSTEM, Administrator, etc.)

You should map users to users and groups to groups, unfortunately some of the groups also show up in the extracted user map - so you have to be careful about the assignments made.

Also - if you do it all to one - then the resulting server will have all branches, workareas, files, and folders owned by one user and shared by one group - which I somehow doubt is what you really want as an outcome.

True but you can then change the permissions with submit.cfg after the fact. This makes it easier to have the data usable by the other server.

You remeber what you needed to do before trying to move a store with local IDs.

It was ugly.

very true, and thank you for the advice. Well i didn't keep this in mind while i did the migration for just one branch from one Ts server to an other, so i have to get this fixed some how, i am successful in fixing almost all except this single error..

There is like none of "no user" on any of the tokens,i guess it is not recognizing one of the user, so i made sure that all of the users and groups listed are on the new server. How can i get rid of this.

If i ignore this error, and restart the server, only those workareas/branches with this unknown user will be affected right? other branches and groups which have valid users will not be affected? Please let me know if i am right? or correct me if i am wrong.

You can actually do the lookup of names off of the old server from the new server, given the right relationship between them, with the -s parameter.

you might want to output the map for user and group and check it again, as that error would keep me always wondering what I had missed.

However, having an invalid id in the map does not seem to negatively effect anything except that which is using that ID for file/folder permissions specifically. In other words, I think that you could ignore that error and only see an impact if that "empty" user was the owner or group on an existing file system asset.
