I'm attempting to run DD via command line with long arguments (i.e. -k something=lotsandlotsoftext) and am getting the following error message in my micro log:

ErrorString The input line is too long.

So, what is the limit and can this limit be raised?

On DOS or Unix ? I think the limit is shell based.

Unix/ksh the limit is 256 (I think) but I have gotten around it by making a shell script and then there is not a limit that I know of.

If I am correct you can try a bat file or you can try cygwin with a shell script.

I'm actually forced to go through the OD admin UI. Ordinarily, I'm executing this through as a DNR script whose "parent" OD config is part of a workflow. I'm not sure how a batch script would help (?)

well, if you have to use the OD GUI, then it won't help.

Experiment and see how many characters you can enter in the GUI before you get the error. Then figure out how to get your parameters down to that number.

Must be a lot of parms, we use the OD GUI some with 5 different (not huge) parameters and I have never seen this issue before.

I just finished reading the thread that ISCBorisB referred me to and it looks as though it's just over 8K characters. I need to pass in some fields into DD through the command line, although these fields may be quite long sometimes. What have others done to get around this issue?

You are passing over 8K in parameters ? ?????

The article you refered too is for DOS commandline. I thought your issue from from the GUI.

So? If you you have deeply nested branching structure, 3-4 DCR Vpathes is 1K, easy.
If for example Dave populates wide-tuple vpath we are talking what, 20 - 30 DCRs.
