I don't know how to frame this question, Ok i have a CGI task which i am using INSTEAD of a multiple select box in a DCT. So here the end user will click seelect button which is next to a Text field, this will call the CGI script and he makes selection basically my add, remove buttons as shown in the figure. After selection, he clicks submit, all the values which are selected in the right hand select box will be taken and the small cgi window closes.

I am stuck at a point, where i click submit and nothing happens, because, i don't have a clue as where to go from there, can you guys tell me read something to accomplish this?

Your form has no action attribute associated with it - so therefore it has nothing to do once the submit button is clicked.

I tend to make my CGI scripts recursive in nature by tunneling through all the existing form variables and the new ones set by the form and then near the top of the script determine if any of the new ones have been set, if not - I display the prompting form, otherwise I process the data that was captured in the form and do what I want with it.

Thanks adam, I am aware of it, its easy in javascript to pass values back to a window which was calling it, you know using the window.for,.document.... thingy.

But from your DCT, how can i pass the values in "list21" ( select box 2) back to my DCT onSubmit.

I was thinking that i have to use an other ipl program which captures the values passed on submit, somthing like this..

My question here is, is there a way to pass the values of "list21" into the text field of the DCT which calls this CGI? when i click submit?

Can anyone point me to a good example anywhere?

Well i have tried this with an external html file, it works fine, how to pass value back to the the DCT? here is my function which passes values back to html .

How are you sending it back ? What form, it should be in XML with the substitution tags like an inline

I still not sure as what you are reffering to here. i am trying to send the list back to the textfield which is next to "GetList" button in the DCT. i am attaching the ipl here.

When you click submit, you have a number of names somewhere. That is the information you are trying to pass back. That is the information I want to see, it should be in an XML form.

There is no XML part which is trying to pass the databack to the DCT, i am working with help of the upload example from the support KB, so i haven't put any xml as yet. I was thinking more in terms of calling a function onSubmit and that function will check the existance of DCT which called this CGI call out and return the values into the text field which called the CGI.

Have you looked at Appendix B in the FormsPublisher Developer's Guide? It's not great but it provides most of the information you need, especially information on the form variables that are passed to your initial CGI script that provide you with the handles you need to send data back to the DCT form. You can also look at IWHOME/httpd/iw-bin/example_datacapture_callout.ipl - unfortunately this code was written using the pre-FormAPI method for accessing the DCT form using JavaScript / FormAPI code in your CGI code - but the FormAPI manual provides insights into that (search for getScriptFrame in the documentation)

I'm confused now - is this a workflow cgitask script or a DCT cgi-callout script?

If the former - there is no FormAPI context to use.
If the latter - try using:

If i use a replicant an din which i have this list calling CGI, is this the right function to use?

or should i be doing

Here i guess i need an index for the replicant which calls the script, so that i can push the values back to the same replicant which called it. But me simply doing this

api.IWDatacapture.getItem("/PressRelease[1]/fileName").setValue(nameList);

would solve it for only first replicant, how would i make it generic for any number of replicants?

You're jumping around a lot based on what you know about what you're doing.
If you're in a CGI script called from a DCT callout - then you will be passed information about the field that is associated with the callout button - stored in form-variables - you can use that information to determine the correct 'path' to use for the instance of the replicant in which the button was pressed and therefore be able to ensure that you set the correct field from the FormAPI code embedded within your CGI script.

Are you asking a question or making a statement? Have you tried what you writing? If you try it and it works - you have your own answer. If you try it and it doesn't work - you have the basis for a more detailed question - but with a bit of digging around you could probably answer that for yourself too.

Finally it works for me, all i ahd to do is simple perl which gives me the correct replicant and field which is calling the CGI and i can push my list back to that field.
