how to access pl from TPL

i want to access a perl file from TPL and i am not able to do that

If you run:

/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /french_direct/dev/WORKAREA/fms_wa/topnav.ipl

from the command line - what do you get? My guess - an error message - the above line assumes that

/french_direct

is the name of a TeamSite store - but the initial path of any backing store is, I believe,

/storename/main

- In addition, unless you've set up the symbolic link for the store /french_direct - the above wont work because it represents a vpath and not a file system path - thus, it becomes more likely that what you should be using is:

/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /iwmnt/french_direct/main/dev/WORKAREA/fms_wa/topnav.ipl

(I'm obviously making some assumptions about your environment).

All that being said - we'd still need to know what gets output on the screen when you run the command - and whether the output is being sent to STDOUT or STDERR - because as written - only STDOUT is going to be captured into $topNav.

Finally - I believe you can (perhaps should?) leave off the '$' within the iw_value tag.

Just my two cents ,but if it is important to extract this code from the PT, why not just create a package then call the code in the PT with a "Use" statement?

Clearly some of my assumptions about your environment were incorrect - however you don't clarify what actually gets sent to STDOUT when you run it from the command line.

In terms of 'use' - the idea is to take the .ipl script and turn it into a .pm module (which generally should be located within IWHOME/iw-perl/site/lib/ somewhere) and then your code can do a use [path::]module_name to reference the code, and below that - call a subroutine or method from that module to perform the desired operation.

If you don't understand about creating / using modules - I suggest reading some books and/or the output of commands like perldoc perlmod and perldoc perlmodlib.

If your script is relatively short (< 30 lines of code) - you could also post it here and someone (perhaps myself) could probably show you how to turn it into a module.
