Best method to deploy metadata & extended attributes

Hi ,

Using OD 6.0 . Needed to deploy .dcr from Server 1 to Server 2 .

Want to know the best way to deploy the .dcr files along with conerned extended attributes & metadata , so that on Server 2 there is no problem in openning the DCR files .

Server 2 also has teamsite 6.1 installled .Branching structure is also same .

Also one quick question : Can we control parrallel or sequential open deployment .

You would use OpenDeploy to transfer the phyiscal file to the new location.

Next, if you have DataDeploy, you could dump the extended attributes of the file(s) into an XML file. Move that XML file over to the target server and then process each file record's metadata against the target files. The last step would be custom code to set the extended attributes.

If you don't have DD, you will have to write custom code that pulls the EAs out of the source files and add that temp file to the list of files to deploy.

In either case you would have a deploy and run script which carries out the process of applying the extended attributes.

6.0 or 6.0.2 ?
I believe 6.0.2 introduced the built-in ability to transfer EAs - at least when doing TeamSite based deployments (I haven't used it myself, and I've seen some posts about some problems with it - but it should work...) Otherwise the DNR or wrapper script approach is probably your best bet as already suggested.
