Need help with Desksite

I hope I am posting in the proper forum..I have a handful of users who ehn they open up an existing document and then save as New the new number does not appear in the footer, it remains the same as the orignal from which we copied. We tried several different types of documents thinking it may just be a particular type of document, but that is not the case. And it is not happening every time either.
Has anyone encountered this before?

I'm pretty sure that, out of the box, WorkSite doesn't provide any mechanism for dynamically updating document numbers in the footer of a (presumably) Word document. That would be a customisation your developers would make to the integration.

There is a mechanism for inserting a WorkSite footer (under the Insert menu in Word) but this will not get updated if, for example, you copy the document from within DeskSite and then open it in the Word app. You'd need to write the code for this yourselves.

If you're seeing inconsistent results, maybe you have custom code that updates the docnumber/version values, etc, but it is not firing correctly?

I am not sure what iamsharok is asking for, if you are talking baout problems in created new versions with desksite? there are some patches for the worsite database which needed to be run for enabling them, we had a similar problem and worksite support people have resolved the issue for us.

You could also get a better document ID system. We offer a few, although the more sophisticated features are only available for WorkSite 8.x...

We experience the same issue here. We are using the custom footer dot file (custft80.dot) that ships with DeskSite 8.0. We made a few modifications to it but, the functionality is basically the same. When it works normally, it will capture information from the document profile as Word saves the document and save that information in some document properties. Then it updates fields in the document that reference these document properties.

The custom footer code creates an iManageExtensibility object to be an event sink so it can capture edit profile, new document, new version and save events from the IMan Extension. When a document is saved, I have code attached to Word's DocumentBeforeSave event which passes a Word document object and then creates an iManage.IManDocument object referencing the Word document from which I can then query profile information. The code is below.

Problems seem to occur in two situations. If one document is open already in Word and then the user selects File > Save As in Word to create a new document. Or if the user has more than one document open at the same time and attempts to save the foreground document. Even though the Doc.FullName property value represents the document being saved, the objDocument gets set to the background document.

Unfortunately, the issue is not repeatable on demand. But once it starts happening for a user, it will continue until they close Word. Also, if the user closes the other document, and saves other one again, the properties will update to their correct values.

We have called Interwoven and Microsoft, and both are pointing fingers at the other at the moment. And it is not reproducible on demand, so it has been difficult for us to show them what is happening.

lanshark - Since you have DeskSite 6x, are you using the sample footer macro, custft960.dot? Would you attach the template you use to foot the document? I'd like to try to reproduce the problem you've described in-house. Thanks.
