Perl modules for Solaris

are there any different set of perl modules available for solaris? Where can we get those?

You'll need root privileves on the server (assuming iw-perl is owned by root):

# perl -MCPAN -e shell

Not strictly true. You can always build and install the modules in a local directory (as long as that directory is in your @INC path). That said, putting them in the right place is the better way to go, and probably will require root.

- a.k.a. iw-home/iw-perl/bin/cpan

This assumes that your server has network connectivity to the internet - or that you have knowledge of a proxy server that can be used to obtain such connectivity.

You will also need to make sure you at least have a version of make, tar, and gzip on your path.

For some modules, you will also need to make sure you have a (good) compiler, linker, assembler, yacc, lex, etc. - (i.e. a development environment) on your path too.

Warning: /usr/ccs/bin/ tools generally are poor substitutes for GNU tools - and depending on what you're building you may have to go through some contortions to make sure the compiler/linker/assembler are all synchronized with one another (e.g. when building DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle, I had to move /usr/ccs/bin/ld out of the way and replace it with a symlink to /usr/local/bin/ld (GNU ld) in order to get the module to build (plus a lot of other things which are documented in some other thread).
