Textarea character limit using visualformat

Is there a way to limit the number of charactes in a textarea that uses visualformat to 1500?

Sure you can.

But remember that this is converted to HTML so you are counting all the HTML tags. So your limit could be much smaller than 1500 usable characters.

Why are you limiting ? Putting it into a DB ? Then use the hard limit as the HTML tags will count. If you just want a soft limit to limit the size of a generated HTML, then pick a number like 2000, or 2500 and go.

You *used* to be able to use the maxlength (5.5.2) however I checked the DTD and it does not look like textarea supports that anymore.

If that does not work, you may need to write some formapi to do this.

Maxlength never existed for textareas - you used to have to use a validation-regex (there are KB articles for this) or FormAPI (a better solution since it was introduced)
