End-User File upload directly into TeamSite, how?

Is there a way for end-users (users browsing a TeamSite page but not logged into TeamSite) to upload files directly INTO TeamSite?

We were thinking of using a form to upload the file into a database and then having TeamSite retrieve the file and import it. The upload would be BLOB for the file and the metadata needed to ID where the file goes in TeamSite (WorkArea, etc).

Is there a tool in place for this? Has anyone come up with a solution or best practice for this? Have a better idea? :rolleyes:

The owner of the process that interacts with TeamSite would need to be a valid TS user with access to the workarea / directory where files would be uploaded - if you have that covered, then the process could work through the file system interface.

If you're looking for something that's interactive (CGI) - then I believe the same applies unless you are trying to provide them access to the TS UI - in which case you would need the authentication credentials that come with logging into TeamSite - or go the route of the CSSDK (which I have not done, so I'll leave that to other folks to describe)

well, you can view the pages with a custom web server, if you mount the TS file system in the web server docroot.

"browsing the teamsite" is a bit vague, that is why i described a different way to acess the ts file system. also it might help him to find a solution to his authentication problem.

When you say metadata - you mean that in the generic sense right? not in terms of TeamSite Extended Attributes - right?

TeamSite does not intrinsically import data/content from a database - so this step, in itself, is a pretty significant "black box" in your description. However, as has been stated, if the owner of the process has access rights through the file system interface to TeamSite - then I don't believe that access will be an issue. The big issue will be how you query the database to find data you wish to import and how you extract that data from the database to import it as a file (perhaps DCR?) into TeamSite.

Right. The metadata will just be information on where in TeamSite this file needs to go (this metadata is set by the TeamSite Page Template that creates the Upload.asp page).

Ok, so it would be much easier to just upload the file+metadata to a folder and have TeamSite import it.

I would suggest to keep the two processes completely independent.

There should be some web interface where end users should be able to upload the files from their local machines. After uploading the file it should go to web/app server, entry in the db with metadata.

You can run a wf,cgi,ipl,cssdk which will retrieve the file list from db and then it can feed the list to OD and OD can deploy the files back to TS server. metadata can be reset at this point of time...

Another approach I can think to give TS portlet view ...or use Team Portal to give TS view to end users. Never did this but can be a thought to go forward.
