Local File Manager (aka LaunchPad) issues

Strange Local File Manager Behavior:

This is TS 6.5 SP1 on a W2K 2003 SP1

The File Manager was working fine and now it is not.

We have a vendor working over a VPN using Teamsite. They can not edit any local files as the java applet responds with a lone red "X" in the right-hand window. The version of Java on the PC is 1.4.2_12. I had them uninstall version 1.5 previously and change the browser settings as well. When we initially installed the File Manager I had them answer "Always" to the Interwoven Certificate. It was all pretty standard stuff. They still can submit and use the "Workflow" tab but any content editing does not work.

The applet error is:
Applet com.interwoven.launchpad 100.LaunchPadApplet notinited

Using the Java Console we captured this error:
java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
at java.net.SocketInputStream.read(Unknown Source)
at java.io.BufferedInputStream.fill(Unknown Source)
etc...

I guess I'm now going to start thinking that our security group might have locked down the VPN connection to tight? Are there ports I need to have them open? Are there additional elements that need to flow over the connection to allow the File Manager to function? Should I have our vendor do anything on their end.

What i gain from my experience, this problem persists after installing Symantec Anti-Virus/Firewall or incompatible JRE version.

1. Check your Firewall settings and,
2. Uninstall current Java Environments & install JRE 1.4.

Hope this would help you out of the conflicts.

also check your security settings in your webbrowser.
Perhaps you can set the security settings to a very low level, just for a test...

The filemanager uses port 1080 (according to Admin guide). Maybe that one is closed on the firewall?

even we faced the same issue, but resolved after installing MS JVM instead of SUN JVM.
