iwui/access_log growing with junk entries

Hi,

We are using TS 5.5.2 on Solaris. Of late, we have had this problem of growing size of access_log, with bizarre entries that are quite unrelated to Interwoven Teamsite (Eg : we have in access_log, entries of access to www.yahoo.com, www.google.com, et al). Now, there's a separate thread of discussion in this forum where this issue of access_log growing beyond 2 GB and subsequent problems in restarting iw-webd (Interwoven Web Daemon). The solution stated there is to truncate or rename the access_log. We have done that couple of times but then I would want a permanent fix to this problem.

1. What do I do to restrict access to www.yahoo.com,www.google.com and the likes and only enable access to the required resources in Interwoven? I'm sure that I can avoid the problem significantly if I can stop the logs about the other public sites.(some setting on the iwproxy?)

2. Is there a way to rotate iwui/access_log (some configuration setting)?

Appreciate any help to resolve this.

The only way that I can think of that you would get entries like this in the access logs for TeamSite is if there are invalid links in the HTML served up TeamSite.

In other words, if you put an HTML page in one of your workareas, and add link in that page to href="www.yahoo.com", you would see an entry. The link should, of course, be pointing to http://www.yahoo.com, instead of just www.yahoo.com.

To remove these entries, you would need to clean up the HTML to remove the references.

2. Is there a way to rotate iwui/access_log (some configuration setting)?

The permenant fix is to run a script on some time interval that archives your log files. I have a script that runs everytime I run a system backup that archives/rotates all the log files on my system. There are some TeamSite log files (iwtrace.log , iwserver.log, to name a few), that will not allow me to move them unless TeamSite is stopped, and so I archive these weekly, when I reboot the server (As I am on Windows, I find it necessary to reboot my system weekly to keep it running well).
