Your code needs to register a handler for perticular event like below:
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSaveValid", someFormValidation);

and then you can write functionality into this funtion like below
function someFormValidation(){
....your code
}

Same way there are other stages of the save process also like
onSaveValid
onSaveNameSpecified
onSaveDone
