Javascript error in Mediabin

kshitiz

Hi,

I'm facing a very strange problem. When I'm logging through Mediabin server. I'm getting a Javascript error (attached). Here is the strangeness in this:

1. On some system the error comes when I put IP address in the url i.e. http:///MediaBin/Default.asp. If I put replace IP address with the hostname of MediaBin box, I don't get this error.
2. On other systems I'm getting this error everytime irrespective I put IP address or hostname.

Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the browser and version that you are using on both the machines?

kshitiz

The mediabin 4.5.2 has been installed on Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6.0 for Mediabin Web Client.

The client systems who are accessing web client are Windows XP machines with IE 6.0 or 7.0. The error is also coming up in Mozilla Firefox.

Do you get this error directly when you try to connect for the first time or when you try to use MediaBin Web Client after leaving it idle for a longish period of time?

I get that kind of error if I leave the Web Client idle and let the session expire. In that case I just hit reload and it fixes itself.

I'm getting this error as soon as i login into the Mediabin.

Version 4.5.2 has been in the public realm for at least one year. No other customer has reported this problem. Perhaps you can provide some answers to questions that might help diagnose the problem:

Is this a new installation?
If not, did you upgrade from a previous version?
Has this installation ever worked properly?
Have you tried clearing the browser cache (delete files on IE)?
FireFox provides much more detailed error information than IE. When the error occurs using FireFox, you should be able to display the javascript console. It may contain additional information, including a link to the exact line in the file, that causes the problem. Unfortunately, the line numbers generated by IE errors make it difficult to really determine which javascript statement is causing the problem. Can you take a look at the FireFox javascript console to see if more information about the error can be gathered?
Have you made any changes to the baseline web client code?
How many folders are immediately under the root folder (Media Database)?
How many subfolders do these folders contain? I'm asking because it may have an affect on how rapidly the code loads which could be a factor required to reproduce the problem.
If you ignore the javascript error, does the main page load successfully?
Does this error occur every time you log in?
Are popups enabled for this site? They are used by the MediaBin web client.
Is this site a member of "trusted sites"? If not, what zone is it a member of, and what permissions level is defined for that zone?
Can you please try including both urls (ip and hostname) as members of "trusted sites" in IE? Can you try modifying the permissions level of the "trusted sites" zone to determine if that makes a difference?
Are you using a proxy server or a reverse proxy server?
I don't think this would make a difference, but I'm curious, if this is a new install why are you not using the most recent version of MediaBin (4.5.3)?

Thanks in advance for your assistance and patience in helping to resolve this issue.

I also faced a javascript error with Folders.asp while using Mediabin 4.5.3 with one of my clients. The error read 'top.theMenu.entry.26' is null or not an object in line 1 of MediaBin/Folders.asp. This occured after setting the permissons on a folder under Media Database. These javascript errors do not appear very frequently though.

Here are answers to your questions:

Is this a new installation?
Yes, this is a new installation.

If not, did you upgrade from a previous version?
No

Has this installation ever worked properly?
The error is coming the day we installed mediabin.

Have you tried clearing the browser cache (delete files on IE)?
Yes, it has been tried. Even the users who have hit the URL for first time on their systems got this error.

The screenshot attached.

No

There are two folders under root. Under those folders there are more than 20 subfolders in total.

If you ignore the javascript error, does the main page load successfully?
The main page loads. But the right click functionality on folders and assets doesn't work.

Does this error occur every time you log in?
Most of the time.

Are popups enabled for this site? They are used by the MediaBin web client.
Yes.

Is this site a member of "trusted sites"? If not, what zone is it a member of, and what permissions level is defined for that zone?

I couldn't fully understand what do you mean by "trusted sites"

Are you using a proxy server or a reverse proxy server?
No proxy server is being used. Mediabin server is in same network as the users.

I don't think this would make a difference, but I'm curious, if this is a new install why are you not using the most recent version of MediaBin (4.5.3)?
4.5.3 is not being used due to its incompatibility with Oracle DB.

Thanks for the additional information.
Right click is supported for IE only. However the supporting javascript files are loaded for both IE and FireFox. When you get the javascript error on IE, then continue to load the page, does the right click function also not work for IE? If so, this will confirm the error message that FireFox is displaying is consistent with the problem that is occurring with IE. The file that FireFox is reporting the error in, controls the right click menu functions.

FYI: right click is scheduled to be supported for FireFox and Safari for the next release.

kshitiz

Yes, the right click problem occurs in IE as well after the error. Another observation that might be helpful to you. We have configured a DNS name for the mediabin server. Now we are accessing it with http://mediabin.qatarairways.com.qa. Its working fine with this URL on IE, but still not with firefox.

Migrateduser

That's good news if it works consistently with IE. Because right-click is not supported for FireFox in version 4.5.2, we can simply remove the include for the javascript file when using FireFox or Safari.
However, the URL should have no affect on the function of the MediaBin web application. Altering the URL should only affect caching in proxy server(s) and on the local browser.

kshitiz

I guess, the cause has been identified. Whenever the request of mediabin client was going through our internal proxy, the error was coming. On investigation, found out that proxy was somehow not serving that particular JS file. (Don't know why Smiley Very Happy

). So we have to bypass proxy for fully functional Web Client. It shouldn't be a problem now.
