FYI, if you want to make use of the thumbnail image preview FormAPI feature "enableImagePreview" for items in FormsPublisher, be sure to specify a value for the browser's extns attribute, or else it just won't work.

The manual does not clearly state this and I've tripped over it twice now.

Tech pubs: can we have this spelled out more clearly in the FormAPI manual?

See PDF 'tst.670.formapi.pdf' or 'tst.650.formapi.pdf' -- search for: IWDatacapture.enableImagePreview (enable).

Hope Chicago is treating you well.

One thing I noticed is that the thumbnail view may not work depending on the size of the asset. Both end in .jpg, but if you browse to the 1 MB image no thumbnail. If you browse to the 10KB thumb, yes. Win2K TS 6.5

Does your experience mesh with what I saw ?

Andy - I have not extensively used this feature, but it sure as **** is impressive to a newbie. Great for the sales folks. I can imagine that a largish image might cause FormAPI or the network grief.... Smiley Happy

I seem to remember a "LOWSRC" HTML attribute to the img tag that sets high-res or just plain large images to low res, thumbnail mode so they can be delivered more easily. Does the browser make use of this?

heh, heh... I just had a case where one form type was showing the preview, and another wasn't.

The problem:
the DCT with working imagepreview had : extns=".jpg,.gif"
the non-working one : extns="jpg,gif" (the browser popup itself worked fine)

Conclusion: file extensions must include the dot

Sorry to drag up an old thread. I've been playing around with this feature on 6.7.2 on Solaris 10 and Windows 2000 installations. It would appear preview will only work if your extension is in lowercase. Some of our graphics are saved as .JPG, which doesn't work with either the BROWSER callout preview or the on-form preview.
