adjusting the size of pdf thumbnails
jrMugz
Greetings,
We are trying to expand the viewing pages in the thumbnails for our PDF files.
We go to Enterprise Manager, click on the Asset Processing tab, change the "PDF Files max pages previewed" property from 10 to 50, and then click the "Apply Changes" button, which then grays out, giving us the impression that the change has been saved.
However, when we go to view on the web, still only 10 pages can be previewed.
Then, to test further, we shut down the server, restart it, then re-open Enterprise manager. We check the PDF setting in the Asset processing tab, and it still only has 10, and did not retain the 50 that we entered.
Can anybody tell us what might be going on, and what we might need to do to get the change to be applied and stay?
Thanks,
Jim

This seems unusual, but as a quick test you can verify that the PDF pages row in the MBSettings table has been set correctly. In any case, you should probably open a support case so we can investigate further.
What version are you running? Is it a single machine or a cluster?
Thanks,

Try inserting a new PDF. Are the results different?

Ah yes. My colleague points out there may be some confusion on this point. Previews are generated asynchronously when an asset is inserted. Changes in the number of previews, or, for example, the addition of a watermarker to the default insertion process do not take effect retroactively, but only affect assets going forward. Of course one can use a script to reinsert assets one wishes to change.
Considering the vast number of assets people can have in a MediaBin repository, you can imagine that reprocessing every one is usually not what people want!
Cheers,
