I've run in to an interesting issue after upgrading to TeamSite 6.5 - not sure if this has been discussed before, but here goes -
The version of perl in TeamSite 6.5 is now much more natively utf8 aware, while the previous version was not. In some of our templates, the output was now showing up as if it were improperly encoded. (Some funky characters where we expected Korean, or some of the dreaded Å characters.) It looked like the output was in ISO-8859, however the browser settings showed it as UTF-8.
It turns out the culprit was actually TeamSite trying to do us a favor that wasn't needed anymore. The templates referenced a custom perl module that returned some data. It appears that in its previous version, perl would jumble the data, and then TeamSite would normalize it to UTF-8. However, with 5.8, perl is properly handling the UTF-8 data. However, TeamSite Templating is still trying to normalize it. The solution was just to change
return $output;
to
utf8::decode($output)
return $output
in our perl module. Thus, when templating later encodes, it appears properly.
