Restricting permission on QA Branch

Hi ,

Using TS 6.5 Win 2000 SP4.

I have created a QA Branch . Inside this I have a QA WorkArea .

I want that everyone should have permission to create DCRs or HTMLs in this . But no one should have the permission to edit the code ( datacapture.cfg , .tpl file ) or create new files or folders on QA branch ( QA WorkArea ).

In other words want to
disable : Edit link , New File , New Folder on QA workarea
enable : New Form Entry on QA workarea .

How can I implement this ?

Hi Rohit,

You asking for some of the permissions to provide and others to revoke to workarea. Instead i suggest you to disable individual menu items for the users / groups as per your requirement.

To know about the implementations... read on more for manual for FormAPI.

Can we disable the Edit->Edit and the Edit link present just after the files in CC for a particular branch (say QA ) , so that QA people can only create DCRs , HTMLs but cannot edit the code .

Rohit,

I have never tried to do the same... but yes has disabled other menu items for different users. Please give it a try yourself and read on FormAPI guide for reference help.

FormAPI has nothing to do with this - disabling the ContentCenter menus is controlled by the UITK (RTFM User Interface Customization Guide) and can only be controlled by role - not by branch, workarea, user, or any other constraint.

Alternatively you can try to control the ACLs on the particular files (datacapture.cfg, PT) at the OS level - providing read access to all users but write/change access to a sub-set of users. However, I'm not sure if this will prevent users who have just read access from editing the files.

Having a review process for all submit operations - or coding conditional logic into the submit workflows that only allow modification to those files by a select set of users and reverts the file if anyone else tries to submit a modified copy of them might be helpful.

Last, but not least, user training - make it clear to the users of the system that they are not to edit those files.

I myself don't know why i have written FormAPI where ever i need to write UICG??? May be something else was in my mind and was writing something else.
