Capturing 'edit' link click for DCR

Hi

Using TS 6.5 Sol 5.8

We have a requirement. We need to update the existing DCT with one new fields called 'Expiry Date'.

There is also an expiry date field in metedata.

I need to know an approach by which whenever a user edits the existing DCRs ( which did not had the expiry field previously ...as we have updated the DCT now ) the expiry date field should be automatically be populated from the 'metadata' value for expiry date.

or ...can we initiate a script on clicking the 'edit' link for DCRs in content center.

FormAPI is probably only part of the answer - I believe they would need a callServer call to a script (presumably perl) to retrieve the EA if the current value of the field is empty.

If i understood correctly, you want to pick up the value of expiry date in metadata and put the same value within the newly created item in your DCR.

Here my suggestion would be to write an external script which loops thru each and every DCR and update the value.
