Branching Structure to support multiple WebLogic domains

My client have partitioned their WebLogic environment up into domains. A domain can contain 1 or more applications. An application can be present in more then one domain. A good example of this is applications containing common functionality. They may wish to update a system app and deploy it to 1 domain. But not all domains at once. In this way they can stagger their release to an environment. The problem here is that they want to be able to report on which file versions are in each taget environment. They want to know which domains have version 1 of the systenm app, and which have verion 2.

My first reaction was that each domain needs to have it's own branch. But there are large numbers of domains. And they do not want to tie their branch structure to their domain structure.

Does anyone have any Is anyone else deploying to WL servers partitioned into multple domains, where they must have a record of which versions of files are in which target domains?
