Search & Replace for MetaData

Hi ,

Using TS 6.5 Sol 5.8

We have a req. in which we have to build a Search & Replace functionality for MetaData values.

What is the best approach for the same ?

Some of the approach:
-Read through the Extended attibutes & do a replace if the search phrase matched.Too much CPU time consuming .
- Save extended attributed & file name in DB. Query the DB for the search phrase . Get the file path . update the metadata using iwexttr -s
This is comparatively better.

Let me know if anyone has a good sollution for the same.

The DB / iwextattr -s approach is probably the most efficient. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there's no command for setting an EA on multiple files at the same time.

I believe in the future (not sure which release) you may be able to do this reasonably via the Set Metadata GUI - there was a presentation on this at last year's GearUp, though I'm not sure if the presentation is available on line (I just did a quick search and couldn't find it)
