Users Unable to Preview/Generate Files

TeamSite 6.7.1 / Windows Server 2003 SP1

We recently migrated to this server from a 5.5.2 server. (Overdue, I know!) We've gotten everything pretty much set up as expected...however, the one problem we're having is that users are unable to preview/generate from DCRs. I've verified that the TSIMP_hostname account is in the 2 groups it needs to be in (TeamSite Web Preview & Users) and that it has the 5 local user rights on the server (Act as part of the operating system, Increase quotas, Log on as a service, Log on locally, & Replace a process level token)

The only user accounts that are currently able to preview/generate are accounts listed in the Administrators group on the server. I've verified that a corporate user account cannot preview a file until I add them to that Administrors group on the server. Obviously, we don't want to do that for all of our TeamSite users and we're stumped as to why they're unable to preview without that group.

Has anyone else run into something like this? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Can they view static HTML pages ?

Can you log in as one of them and run iwpt_compile ?

Yes, I can view the generated HTML files fine by clicking on the filenames. This error is what shows in the iwutild log regarding the iwpt_compile question:

what user is vdxs10 ? Can you log into the server and run iwpt_compile as that user from a DOS/Unix shell ?

That user account cannot log onto the box directly to run the command. This will be the case for most of the users in the system. I had read something about the log on locally, but thought that with the TSIMP_hostname account having that right, everything would be ok...guess not.

I've gotten the final word from Support on this...

There is a "bug" with TeamSite 6.7.1 and Windows API that requires any user that will be utilizing preview and generate functionality be added to the Local Security Setting "Log on locally". There is no workaround to this issue at this point, and from my understanding, this is something that a lot of customers are taking exception to. Engineering is working on a workaround, but there is no estimated date for that to be completed yet. They recommend creating a domain group and having that group manage all TeamSite users. Then, add that group to the Security policy.

This is currently the only option for users to be able to Preview and Generate.

Hmm - used to be (I think in 5.x) that there was a problem if the user's did not have READ/EXECUTE access to the directories leading up-to-and-through the IWHOME dir (at least to places like IWHOME/bin, IWHOME/httpd/iw-bin) starting from the drive (e.g.: c:\iw-home)

I haven't worked on Windows for a while (thankfully) - but you might try checking this out by creating a local group (without log-on-locally permissions), making sure that it has read/execute permissions on the folders as described above and adding one of the users who cannot do Preview to it -- run iwreset, and have the user log-out and log back in again (both to the OS and TS)....

Thanks Fish, but that didn't do it either. I've had the server removed for a large policy group and we're going to set up the log on locally for the users...at least until Engineering produces the workaround.

Well, just posting one error from nearly 2 years ago does not help much unless this problem has been happening since Mar 07.

What rev of TS ? OS looks to be DOS, but provide some specifics. What type of users are you using ? Again looks to be local or domain users.
